Just think, can you live without talking?  Probably not, except for the solitude and the bedtime, we - you spend most of the time talking or communicating with each other or in a group to meet your petty needs or express your feelings and thoughts  give.  Even sometimes we start talking to ourselves in private, the truth is that we cannot live without talking.  If one is to live in the society and take part in its various activities then it is not possible without dialogue or communication.

Whether we want to or not, in our daily lives we cannot live without communication.  In fact communication is a sign of life.  As long as man is alive, he keeps on communicating.  Even a child cannot live without communication.  He draws his mother's attention to himself by crying or screaming.  In a way, the end of communication means death.  Although all living beings communicate in nature, but the ability and skill of man to communicate is the best. It is often said that man is a social animal and his communication ability played the biggest role in developing him as a social animal.

Be it any incident in any corner of the world, we get the news within a few minutes through mass media.  If the correspondent of any television news channel is present there, then we get to see the pictures of there also immediately.  Remember, on September 11, 2001, the whole world saw the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in America happening in front of their eyes.  Similarly, today on the television screen, we can see the events happening in different regions of the world through live broadcast at the exact same time.  You may not go to the stadium to watch a cricket match, but you can watch the live telecast of that match sitting at home.

To be honest, today the medium of communication and mass communication has become our essential requirement.  They have become very important role in our everyday life.  Without them we cannot even imagine modern life today.  They are not only a medium of information for us.  Rather they are also playing a leading role in making us aware and entertain us.  But before we discuss more about the fascinating and interesting world of mass media, it is necessary to understand the communication and its process in detail, because mass communication is a form of communication.
