Bitter gourd is a summer vegetable, as name suggest it is bitter in taste, but its benefits encourage you to eat it. In this blog we are going to read some of the benefits of bitter gourd a d then I am going to tell you how to grow it in pots at your home.

How to grow it at your home?

First of all it can be grown in the months of feb-march and june- july. 

Choose the right variety. For all india five best varieties are given below.

These varieties are best for india.

Boost germination by special way.

Buy 10g packet of your favourite variety from the 5 varieties I suggested, then open packet put out seed you want to sow dip these seed In water for 2 hours. 

After that you need to execute a cut on the seeds broad side as the seed has two side one Carry a pointing part and other is broader one , as shown in image.

After this procedure again dip this cutted seed in water for 24 hours. After soaking these seed.

Prepare the pot, pot should be 12 inch size. Fill the pot half with soil and half with compost in 1:1. Loam soil is best for bitter gourd. Pot should have a drainage hole in it. 

After filling it with soil and compost. Dibble seed at 2.5cm in pot water immediately, germination will start within 4 days, in this way you can boost the germination. 

Irrigation 

Apply light irrigation daily basis. 

Harvesting

Fruits start forming near 40 days you can twist them for harvesting.
