So it's the pride month and a lot of people are rummaging for LGBTQ literature to read. I read plenty of books last year and am ready to share my favorite literature on LGBTQ romance. This genre has become the most read romance genre in the twenty-first century and it ought to be as it has a greater range of emotions, intensity, and captivity than the regular romances.
So here is my list of top 5 LGBTQ romances and all of them are a great read for anyone who likes to read romance in general
This book is never going to be cliché despite being adapted to a movie because what book has is much more enticing than the movie. So all those who have watched the movie, reading this book will make you feel like you're reading this story for the first time, and for those who haven’t, read instead of watching the movie. It is a very natural romance between young 17-year-old Elio and 24-year-old Oliver and one would hardly feel that they are reading a ‘gay’ romance. Definitely suggesting if you relish romance novels.
This story is based on Homer’s Illiad which is a popular Greek Mythology literature. If anyone has watched the movie Troy 2004, they would know that Achilles and Patroclus shared a special relationship. Madeline Miller has almost recreated the Illiad but with the plot centered around the romantic relationship between Achilles and Patroclus and makes it an irresistible read. Reading this will give you a lot of information on Greek mythology and one will love the combination of gay romance and mythology.
An absolutely engrossing romance between the First Son of the President of the United States Alex and the British royalty Prince Henry. It has everything you want from a twenty-first-century romance and it would be difficult to keep it aside without finishing. It is humorous dramatic, emotional, and obviously with a happy ending. Also, it gives insights into the lives of such public figures who hardly have a personal life and end up suppressing their real self.
It is an emotional yet enlightening book about how messed up lives people live. Aristotle and Dante are young teen boys who though are from different cultural backgrounds yet have similar problems and they become good friends. From being friends to being confused about what they want, they finally accept their real self and their love. It’s a beautiful story on the whole and is quite relatable at some places when they interact with their families which are actually disordered and stressed.
A romance between a famous track-athelete and a beauty pageant who loves her car and working on cars at a garage but is forced to be a beauty pageant by her mother. It is quite interesting as it begins with an immediate dislike for each other and then gradually builds into a romantic relationship followed by typical same-sex couple hurdles like parents and work. But the way it progresses keeps us hooked to it and is worth giving a read.
It’s a futuristic or a sci-fi romance when you actually the time of your death. Two such guys who know their time’s up, try to live the last moments of their life doing something adventurous, and it turns into living the best moments of their lives with each other. But the story ends differently than you expect.
I could not include books that focus on Queer, Transgender, and other groups of the LGBTQ community because I haven’t read much but as soon as I do I won’t mind updating the list.
