The Concept Of Five Food Groups

Hey welcome back to my another informative blog I hope you all are fit and fine so let's start.

Five food groups are: 

1 pulse milk, egg, meat, fish (protein) group of body building foods

2 Protective vegetables and fruits groups

3 others vegetables 

4 cereal groups

5 fats and oils groups

The role of these five groups in human diet is very important. It must recommended and each group supplies some nutrients and combinations of item selected from each of the five food groups in right proportions is ideal.

BODY BUILDING FOODS 

The food included in this groups are important for their protein content. Protein are required for replacing the wear and tear of the body tissues. These foods also supply some amount of vitamin b and niacin. 

Eggs, milk and liver are good source of iron and milk is a good source of calcium. One serving of this group supplies 5 6 grams of protein.

Pulses include all dals and legumes include all dry whole grams, beans etc.

PROTECTIVE GROUPS

This group is rich source of vitamin A it includes the dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach, fenugreek, radish, the light green leafy vegetables such as cabbage and onion tops and deep yellow vegetables and fruits such as carrots, oranges, red pumpkins, mango and papayas 

Half of cup or 50 g of the cooked vegetables or chopped fruits can be counted as one serving unit.

VITAMIN C RICH 

This group includes fruits and vegetables such as amla, lemon, guava and all citrus fruits such as oranges, grapes and all other fruits such as papaya, pineapple, tomato, strawberries etc.

CEREALS AND MILLETS GROUP

Food in this group provides carbohydrates, proteins and calories . The seeds of plant are richer in thiamine than all other portion of the plant. Cereal such as wheat and rice may be considered as a good source of thiamine.

25 g of cereal may be counted as one serving it means half a cup of cooked rice or medium chapati, two to three puris or small roti one slice bread, 25 g riceflakes or any ready to eat cereal.

FATS AND OILS GROUP 

This group is known as fuel group, this group mainly supply energy. Fats and oils are concentrated source of reserve energy. 

Oils and fats are used for seasoning our food. They improve the palatability, flavor, texture and satiety value of food.
