The story begins by Chetan Bhagat recieving an Email from a person named Govind in which he had mentioned that he had committed three big mistakes of his life and that leds to committee suicide.

Chetan Bhagat gets terrified when he reads the Email and contacts his old teacher. Chetan Bhagat did some research and finds out that the guy is admitted in Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. Chetan Bhagat goes to Gujrat to meet Govind. Govind tells his story to Chetan Bhagat.

There were three friends Ishaan , Govind and Omi. Ishaan was a cricketer and wants to join Indian cricket team but unfortunately couldn't. Govind was good at mathematics and wants to start his own business. Omi has no goals and his father was priest.

Govind came up with idea to open a sports shop at the temple. Govind decides that the shop ia doing good so they should buy a shop in the shopping mall. But due to some financial problems they started selling some stationary materials along with sports products. For the expansion of business Ishaan started giving cricket coaching in compound. Ishaan had a student who plays cricket very well and have hyper reflex problem.

Ishaan has a sister named Vidya who was very weak in maths. So Ishaan tells Govind to teach her maths. After sometimes Govind and Vidya fell in love with each other.

One day suddenly earthquake occurred and the shop in shopping mall destroyed. That was Govind's first mistake.

Mistake 1 - Putting all his and his friend's money in single project.

After few months they went to Goa for India V/S Australia cricket match. Ishaan talked to Fred Li, cricketer of Australia about Ali. Fred Li took Ali to Australia for training by offering him to be a citizen of Australia.Ali refuses his offer. Meanwhile Govind starts missing Vidya.

On Vidya's birthday they both share some deep intense moments. They crossed their limits. This was his second mistake of his life.

Mistake 2 - Falling in love with her friend's sister.

Omi's uncle killed Ali's mother and father because they were muslims. Govind and his friends hide Ali in a building. Omi's uncle reached that building . In saving Ali , Omi lost his life. Omi's uncle throws a knife towards Ali which hurts his wrist. Govind could have save Ali but he didn't. That was his third mistake.

Mistake 3 - If he hadn't been selfish , he could have saved Ali without hurting him.

This all led separation between Ishaan and Govind. After sometimes Vidya's family got to know about her affair and sent her out of town to study. Ali's wrist operation needs five lakhs rupees. Ishaan said no to govind money.

At last Govind and Vidya came to Ishaan and apologize and Ishaan and Govind hugged each other. Later Ali also started playing just like earlier.
