Traditional costume of our Maharashtrian is Nauvari saree for women's and dhoti, kurta and phetaa for men's.
So let's know about Nauvari saree, nauvari saree also known as nav vari, lugade, khacha, sakachach, nauvari, patall. The name nauvari or nine yard saree is oriented from the length of saree. Length of saree is about 9 meter or above. As compared to other saree's it's larger. This saree is commonly of cotton, silk. Available on ranges of minimum 1500 to as per our choice and demand. this saree is quite hard to were and take more time. But now days in market pre-stiched saree is available, these are easy to wear and take less time, and make feel comfortable. Nauvari saree is the traditional Costume of our Maharashtrians women's and generally worn by the maratha and brahmin samaj women's. This saree is makeover by using heavy gold jewellery and gajara in hairs for more beautiful look. Now a day's this saree is not comfortable for women's and for their work, so this saree is wearing for festival time's like gudipadhwa, makar Sankranti, vatsavitri and bride's use it in their weddings for marathi look. Men's wear: Traditional costume of men's is dhoti kurta and phetaa. Dhoti is of cotton, two or three meter long. It has designes on both side if we want, and available without a design also. Dhoti has a five tucks. Hand made dhoti of cotton is soft and durable, for it Nagpur is popular. Pheta or phatka is also called pagadi. It is a headdress. Which is a folded hair cap made of a woolen and also silk. Pagadi meanse the respect of the family. In the function time men's wear the westcoast or jacket on the kurta.
Jewelry is always favourite of women's. On traditional costume of women's they use heavy gold jewellery like Kolhapuri saaj and other special type of necklace. But Kolhapuri saaj is most famous. Patlya, bangdya, bajuband is also used as a nauvari saaj.
Being trendy it not meanse to forget our culture. Nauvari saree gives us very pretty look. Our costume gives us identity. Like when we see the people of another state, firstly we noticed their costumes and identify from which state they are. Just like that nauvari saree and dhoti kurta is the identity of maharastrian.
