Chai -Most Loved Drink Of India

A typical Indian morning starts with a cup of tea which contains milk and sugar.The thick liquid just quenches the morning coziness.Lets see about the most beloved drink of India.

History of Tea 

Emperor Shen Nung from china introduced tea around 2732BC.Windswept leaves from a nearby tree fall into a pan of boiling water.He loved the delicate flavour and refreshing impact.He named the drink “Ch’a’ which is a Chinese word means ‘to check’.

Tea entering into the Royals

In 1610,Dutch and portugese introduced tea into Europe for the first time.It’s flavour amazed them.and only royals could afford it,since it was so expensive.Because tea was grown only in china.The Chinese traders had huge profit in selling tea.

Popular Indian chai

Not only the popular beverage,in India you could see the tea stalls nearby wherever you go.Because it’s consumed by people from all categories like business men,students,domestic workers,higher officials etc.The country consumes 837,000tonnes of it every year.And India is the second largest producer of tea and most of its production is made up to meet the domestic demand.

North India’s Masala chai

In north India they put spices like ginger, cardamom and other spices into boiled milk,tea dust and sugar.They feels it warms up then body in cold weather.It’s extremely flavourful and the aroma is magical.

Tamil nadu’s Meter tea 

In tamilnadu, the tea stalls will customise the tea according to the taste of the people.some people like more milky and some prefer less milk and sugar . So it’s modified.They drink it with side dishes like vadas ,pakoras and dipping biscuits in it.

Kashmiri Kahwah

It’s water based tea which is rich in taste.It’s perfect for cold weather.usually it’s served with dry fruits,almonds,cashew nuts,saffron and pistachios.Hotels in kashmir welcomes you with hot kahwah which will feels heavenly.

Fudina or pudina chai from Nathdwara

Nathdwara in rajasthan serves you chai with generously added mint leaves (pudina).if you want to wake your senses up ,then this would be the perfect option.

Lalcha from Assam

Lalcha doesn’t contain any milk but added generous amount of sugar.The colour of the tea is red as the name of it.It’s famous in North east India.Especially Assam,Arunachal,meghalaya and sikkim.

Tandoori chai

Decades ago,Tea was served in small clay pots.later on people changed it into serving in steel glasses,paper cups ,plastic cups etc.Usually Tandoori chai is served in hot small pot which is heated separately.They just bring the smoked flavour into the chai by heating it.it’s a unique method which adds more flavour.
