In this subject oriented blog I would like to convey about the most determining role of Climatology and Meterology as one of major branch of Earth Science and Atmospheric Science.
Climatology as a branch of Earth & Atmospheric Science deals with the systematic and regional studies of the atmospheric conditions - weather and climate while the gaseous envelope surrounding the earth is called atmosphere and the science dealing with the atmospheric conditions and characteristics is called meteorology and climatology.
In the light of highlight the concept of Climatology is defined as the aggregate weather conditions of the any region in long term prospective. While dealing with its concept meteologists are of different opinions regarding the definition of the subject -
"Climate is the more than a statistical average it is the aggregate of atmospheric conditions involving heat moisture and air movement. Extremes always must be considered in any climatic description in addition to means, trends and possibilities"-Crithchfeild.
“Climate is the integration of weather and weather is the differenciation of climate” -G.F. Taylor that maintains a the distinction between "weather and climate is mainly one of time"
"Climatology is that science, the causes and interpretation of its spatial variation and association with the natural environment and human activities" - Critchfield.
While dealing with its scope there are three distinct branches of climatology that emphasis laid on to study the subject
With a view to the concept of physical climatology deals with the interpretation of factors which are responsible for the spatial and temporal variations of the exchange of air circulation including heat and humidity. Meanwhile this branch is deals with the study of diverse of atmospheric elements - Insolation, Temperature, Air pressure, Wind, Evaporation and Humidity Percipitation, Fogs, Visibility etc. These weather conditions occurs according to the momentum and mechanisms and processes.
While on the other hand, regional climatology deals with the study of various types, distribution, patterns, and characteristics features of the World Climates. Focused on the three ways of spatial scales viz - Macro level climatic regions, Micro level climatic regions, Meso level climatic regions.
Nevertheless in applied climatology the major thrust is on to study climatic knowledge through using applications in order to solve the daily problems that may lead to have caused climate change and global warming which faced by the human societies. Not only this the concept is dealing with the study of variability of climate - climate change, climate and comfort, climate and health, climate and society including different weather conditions- flood and draught etc. Global impact of climate and agriculture, climate and urban planning, weather forecasting etc.
