Despite being a smallest unit in the Central America it is a geographical diverse region situated along the coastline of  Carribbean and Pracific Ocean. Breathtaking beautiful rainforest regions. Costa Rica is that geomorphic region of Central America which has a rich diversity of active volcanoes.

Geomorphologically, Costa Rica has nearly about 200 volcanic formations of active, dormant and extinct volcanoes which the region is characterized by its geomorphic features: volcanism, fluvial and marine erosion. Weathering, hypothermal, krast, glacial and periglacial process of landforms.

Although the geological formations Costa Rica is dominated by the complex geology because the entire landscape is revolves around the three plates: Caribbean, Cacos and Nazcas plate tectonics. Numerous tectonic plates trenches associated with the Panama micro plates.

Form the tectonic point of view the region is located at the terminus of the southern part of the Middle American Trench. While on the other hand, the geotectonic features of the plate tectonics are characterized by the tectonic trench represents a product of subduction zone of the Cocos plate boundaries under the surface of the Caribbean plate; another important submarine volcanic feature that extended along southern coast Costa Rica; the Padma Fracture Zone represents the triple junction lies between the Cocos plate boundaries along with the Nazcas plate underlying the surface of the Caribbean plate plugged off to the southern coast of Costa Rica.

Nevertheless there is a wide range of well defined magmatic and sedimentary chains formed by igneous volcanic activity in the territory along the Costa Rica and in the Western coast of Costa Rica merged with black arc plains as well as the passive marine margins  composed of listric fault system merged along the black arc thrust of the Caribbean sea floor. 

Geographically, the Abyssal plain to the Continental Slope merged with  the Middle Subduction zone of  Marine Pacific Margins where a subducting Cocos plate beneath the Caribbean plate. The crust of the Costa Rica has composed of various geomorphic features like the lithospheric crust is composed of  quasi continental crust not thick as the continental crystalline crust. 

While Costa Rica is that region which is composed of three volcanos of active volcanoes:  Poas volcanos  and Rincon de la Vieja Volcano  Dormant volcanos are Arenal, Barva, Congo, Irazu,  Tenerio. Extinct volcanos: Chopo, Pelado, Tortuguero, El  Veijo are the prominent examples of the volcanos are found in the region that the reflects the wanderlust of biodiversity of volcanic eruptions that is caused due to course and orgin of time.
