The Art Of Multitasking (One Step At A Time, Mate)

As we grow older and when we have a lot on our plate, we wish we had more time and 24 hours per day isn't enough. We can't sacrifice our sleep as that is also important. I am sure a lot of you have realised this much earlier in life. Sure, you wanna get wrapped in the blankets because of the cold and snuggle deeply. But you have got work to do, lots of work. And you have to give time for all that matters. Because as we grow older, time becomes more and more precious and we can't afford to waste it unnecessarily because time waits for no one. But what if it did? It would have been great.

I believe there is an advantage to having more and less time. And also the disadvantages as well. When you have more time, you think to yourself there is time and so you keep pushing it away. But when there is less time, there is panic and worry but then somehow you manage to get the work done, which I think is good. Even then, I still hate procrastination. Sometimes, I wonder why I keep pushing away some things for later which will someday become never. I won't say laziness which used to be the earlier reason and also distraction which is rarely there unless you are looking for it.

There isn't much happening to get distracted and you know while distracting yourself you waste your time and it is that awareness that stops me from mindlessly scrolling and so on.

I think the reason is that I am trying to do all the things at the same time. You think it is multi-tasking but this is an attempt to do things simultaneously and you end up doing nothing.

Here are the things that I want to do:

  • Enquiring jobs for the visa-purpose
  • Attending a panel discussion that is related to my field of interest
  • Applying for an Apprenticeship Scheme that is due next week
  • Looking to Learn Something New
  • Watch a Movie or a Series Episode
  • Read a Book I Borrowed from the Library
  • Work on the Essay Submission
  • Send some emails regarding work and others.
  • Practice my Creative Writing Skills
  • Record a Video for a Thursday

I am sure there are more but these are the ones I can first think of. And there is no issue in doing all of it. But the problem is, doing all of it at the same time. It's like playing cricket where everyone wants to bat first which isn't possible unless everyone has a bat and a field to play. There is only one Me to do all this work. So the only way is to do it one by one. Take turns. If Mickey, Pluto, Tweety, Nibbles, and Jerry want to bat, they will have to take turns so everyone can have fun.

And while doing the work, I shouldn't think of the other and focus on the work fully. While attending the webinar, don't think about the mail you have to send. Either send it before or after the webinar. While reading the book, don't think about the movie or the series you are planning to watch.

Ron Swanson once said, β€˜Instead of half-a**Ing on many things, why don’t you full- a** on one thing.

Sure, all of it is important and you prioritise accordingly and give your hundred percent at that time while doing it. It is difficult but not impossible. Good luck with that. You got this!

Have a great day, fellas! See you in the next one. Cheers mate!
