Spoilers And How To Avoid Them

How do you feel when a surprise for your birthday or a suspense of a film or a book has been spoiled for you? And if you don't feel anything about it, that's because it never mattered to you. But for those to whom it matters, it is kind of a big deal.

Well the reason for writing this isn't because I had one recently but how I kind of avoided spoiler when I was going to watch a movie the other day. the best and the most easiest way to get spoilers is the social media where they are flooded with every element of surprise and suspense in the form of statuses, memes, so called thug videos, and worst of all the comments. Their intention of posting them might be just to share how they enjoyed those moments on screen but they don't realise they are taking away the joy and excitement of watching them directly by being the secondary sources through their posts and stories and so on.

Then there are the comment section where some blatantly give away the spoilers or even criticise the film thereby ruining the thrill of watching something by someone. And on the other hand, it is also piracy where they capture almost everything inside the theatre and put as stories. I get really annoyed when I see cameraphones raised inside the theatre to capture the title (at least that is fine) and maybe the intro of the hero and others making unnecessary comments. The moments they are capturing are meant to be enjoyed and not to be captured as those have already been captured by the makers of the film.

It isn't the haters who cause this problem; but the people, the general people who do that more than the pirates and the excuse they give is; others are also doing. And the clips shared in the social media pages are usually by the cinephiles and the fan clubs and that's the irony of the situation. The admirers destroying their idols' work.

It is quite hard to avoid getting spoilers in the current scenario. I have gotten spoilers because of the same and to a certain extent my fault and I feel guilty about it because what's the fun in watching it after the suspense has been spoiled for you or by you.

So here's how you can avoid spoilers:

  1. Never read the reviews or the summary in Wikipedia of the movies or the series you wish to watch.
  2. Avoid reading the comments on social media related to posts of the film or series you are planning to watch. You might just want to know what people have felt about watching the same. But you don't want to take a risk of coming cross the weed called ‘The Spoiler’ and ruining it for you. That's how I got the spoiler of ‘7th Day’.
  3. Avoid checking any posts related to the films or series you are intending to watch because you never know what's in those and that will be conceieved in your head while watching. The more you skip them, the less they show up.
  4. And last of all, if you don't want get any spoilers, be the first one to watch the movies or series so that you will get free from the risk of getting spoilers from the others and the social media.

Say No to Spoilers. Let's join hands together in getting a wonderful viewing experience rather than ruining it for each other.

Thank you for reading. I will see you in the next one.
