A Train To Libertas Story Time

The beginning of the third decade of the twenty-first century was the time of hope and change as assumed by others. But this was all shattered by a virus that has struck all over the world keeping it at a standstill. After months of waiting, the vaccine was available to all and was shipped to the City of Helvete. However, only a few vaccines were provided for Helevete, that too for the government officials and the rest were to be transported to the city of Libertas via train. The guards carried the packages of vaccines to an old, abandoned railway station with only one train operating and only traveling to and from Libertas. The services were disrupted post the pandemic and the only train available was used for officials and captives.

The train started moving at ten after the whistle was heard. The platform was empty, and it looked like no one’s been there for months. There was no other sound apart from the train.

‘Oi. Stop there.’

A whistle is heard multiple times and that was when a young man appeared from the platform and started running towards the train. His clothes looked shabby so was his whole appearance. He was partly limping, but he was able to run. Some guards came from the other side of the platform and tried to stop him, but he pushed some to the wall and others off the track and turned to run after the train. His leg was grabbed by a guard on the ground and the man kicked him hard to free his leg.

He saw the guards on their feet and turned to run as fast as he could even though his feet was throbbing. He used the last of his energy to reach the train which was slowly distancing from him. He was so close to one of the coaches when he realised he was slowing down. He fell out of breath when he ran faster and that reduced his running pace. His movement was slowly declining and even before he could board the train, he collapsed and missed the train. He raised his head and could see the train vanishing from his sight and then everything was blur. He was gasping for breath and couldn’t move at all. And the guards came and captured him. They began stomping him hardly and beating with their rods and he was too exhausted to react or even cry out loud.

They carried him away and heard him faintly speaking, ‘I am coming home honey…Coming.’
