The death of the poet shree Shankha Ghosh is like the pain of losing a relative to the Bengalis.A man of many talents. Poet, prose writer, professor, he is Shankha Ghosh.

Poet Shankha Ghosh got Jnanpith award in 2016. After 20 years, another Bengali was selected for the Jnanpith award.  In 1997, Mahasweta Devi received the Jnanpith award.  Since then no Bengali has come across this rare honour. Shankha Ghosh, a former professor at Jadavpur University, has already received the Padma Bhushan.  Received Desikottam, Sahitya Akademi Award.  He also received the Rabindra Award.

He was the awakened conscience of today's Bengali nation. He was a Short-spoken person, he said less and listened more. When it needs to be said, his pen has shone in protest. He

never left the traces of a low-speaking, simple living.

He was professor at university, but was not touched by the arrogance of scholarship. When Rabindranath's skepticism and exhaustion about life in the next generation was manifesting the decaying form of modernity everywhere, the path of creation and thinking was getting lost in the storm.  Bengali literature was coming to a standstill with the productive disorder.  At that juncture, the one who has kept the light on as a tangible symbol of rebirth and a fearless paradise-warrior is Shankha Ghosh.

Whether he wanted it or not, he became an icon of Bengali.

কবিতা: ছুটি

কবি: শঙ্খ ঘোষ (Shankha ghosh)

The famous poet received many awards in his lifetime. In 1977 He received the Narsingh Das Award for his book of poetry,‘মূর্খ বড়, সামাজিক নয়'... and in the same year, he won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his book of poetry, "বাবরের প্রার্থনা"...
