I wish and hope Navaratri brings everyone joy, health, confidence and strength. But as a child i always wondered why do we celebrate the festive the way we do, and what is the significance behind it. As growing up I also realized that there is some kind of science involved in these festive and its approaches as well, not entirely sure about it but there is always a link to it. And today we will talk about Navaratri. With the help of this blog, and some questions that i have asked my elders we will try to understand that are our traditions just things passed down by our elders or do they have any importance in this modern world.
Question number 1 : why do we fast ?
Most the answers that i got lead to one thing that is to please the Devi but an unexpected Devi. I think we al have a lot about intermittent fasting, there are scientific research and results show that it is beneficial for human body and also helps keep the youthfulness a long for a long time. But we Indians we knew about this and had been following the 9 day upvas for centuries.
Question number 2 : Why in almost rainy or winter season?
Like many people even i thought that Navratri would be the end of rainy season but apparently it is not, in fact many of our festivals depend upon seasons and many of them are celebrated due to the arrival of certain seasons. Like wise the months of September and October are a reminder of changing season and also the changing night and day time, it was also reminder for people earlier to change their sleep patterns accordingly and return home back on time to take some required rest.
Question number 3 : Why do we dance ?
Navaratri is all about garba, dandiya and dance. But why? The reason is to spread positivity. It is said that when we dance we release more amount of endorphins which helps us tolerate pain. And have you ever seen anyone in a bad mood when they dance, I haven't. To bring all together and spread happiness is one reason and also to keep one in a good shape is other.
These were some questions that i had as a child and asked so many people especially Guajarati's as it is a massive function for them, and are very excited for it. But i have realized that rather than passing out the right information to the next generation the elders have only passed o some traditions which make us question their practice and hence many young kids or adults refuse to be a part of it other than the dancing or free food in the pandal part.
Our traditions define us and i believe the best we can do for the next generation is to gather all this information with some scientific reasons to answer all those why questions so that our next generation would not consider google t the first place but us and also save the environment.
Thankyou🌼
