South China Sea And Its Many Problems

South China sea is the western arm of the pacific ocean which lies 1000 of km east of the Republic of China. Some of the countries that border this 3.5 million km worth of sea and water are China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia and more.

The strategic importance of this sea is that the south china sea is home to almost 7billion barrels of oils, 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. In here China uses 1 crore barrels of oil and the world on the other hand uses 9 crore barrels of oil which in comparison is quite a number. By this information we can know that which ever country has a rightful claim over this sea will have an extreme economic advantage. The second advantage here would be that this is the only sea that connects the neighbouring countries or the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean through the Strait of Malacca. Strait of Malacca is important for transportation and trade, if blocked then it can cause heavy economic distribution to any country lying near to the south china sea. ⅓rd of the Global trade passes through this south china sea so it would create a disadvantage to the entire world too. On a daily basis, almost 50million barrels in of oil pass through South China Sea and $ 3.4 trillion worth of goods pass through the South China Sea which makes for almost 21% of the Global oil trade.

Nine Dash Line or the 9-9 is an imaginary line that is present in the Sea which is almost hundreds of km south and east of Hainan Islands of China. China has claimed and also built Hillary Military Deployments in some of the artificial Islands and also has claimed all the area under the 9-9 line for the past 2000 years. This is the main problem with the South china sea. China has claimed all the are which in it self is a problem for the rest of the countries considering its trading and economic advantages. China is also violating the Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ) which provides all the countries to exploit seabed within 200 nautical miles from its baseline. China has also neglected the international laws and the regulation of the UN as well as the laws of sea to exploit and use the resources present in the south china sea and also to have a monopoly on the trade that flows through it.

Thankyou 🌼
