Shanghai Corporation Organization or the SCO is a permanent intergovernmental organization. It is a Eurasian political, economical and minitrial organization which is immune to maintain peace, security and stability in the region. It was established in 2001 but came into force in 2008. 

The Shanghai corporation organization was initially known as shanghai five which included countries like China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan.  the five members were grouped due to border demarcation and there were demilitarization talk with china by the post soviet republics in order to maintain stability in the region. After  the inclusion of Uzbekistan in 2001, it became Shanghai Corporation and Organization and India and Pakistan also joined in 2017. Recently, few months back Ira became the 9th member country of SCO. As of now the observer states are Afghanistan, Mongolia and Belarus. 

The strengths of this organization, it covers 20% of the total land mass, 40% of the total population of world, and 22% of the world's GDP. It's main importance is due to the geographical location of it which helps it to connect not only the eastern part of Asia also the southern part of Asia, but also the central part of Asia, and through that to Europe as well. It has seen as a counter organization for NATO as well. 

The benefit that India or the SCO will gain is that, India can help in achieving regional integration, promote stability and connectivity across the borders. It can also improve its counter terrorism ability by sharing and gaining the much needed information from these much advance countries. India can also work on Anti drug trafficking's from this involvement in the organization. we can also gain energy through two pipeline that is TAPI (Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India pipeline) and IPI(Iran, Pakistan, India Pipeline), that will help in gaining not only the much needed energy from the central Asian countries but also get a route in order to establish its trade routes in Central Asia. which will again give us a direct access to the central part of Asia and also act as a volunteer group incase China and Pakistan become volatile. 

SCO is so diverse that the challenges in decision making is a very important factor. India will also have to balance it's ties with the Shanghai Corporation Organization countries as well as the other Wester and European countries. Pakistan and China possess difficulties to our country and any action that can go against India can become very difficult for us in the near future.
