India is among the 179th country out of the 193 countries n the entire world which do not officially recognizes Taiwan and also has no official relationships with the country. If we talk about Taiwan, it is officially called the Republic of China and is a country's in east Asia. Its neighboring countries are The peoples Republics of China in north west, japan in north east and Philippines in south.

The Republic of China was replaced by Peoples Republic of China in the UN seat in 1971. The bilateral trades have been improved since 1990's. Taiwan has established Taipei economic and cultural center in New Delhi in1995. India has also established India-Taipei association in Taipei. These two establishments have helped in establishing people to people contact in the expansion of culture as well as economic and political relationships in both of thee countries.

Economic Ties

Both of these countries in 2018 have signed a Bilateral investment agreement to give a boost to the economic ties. More than 18 Taiwanese countries have been working in India. In 2019 the India-Taiwan trade volume was almost 6 million dollars, which is increasing at a rate of 20% annually as compared to the year 2001 which was only 1 million dollar.

One China policy

China stated that the one china policy is an universal consensus and has warned other countries that if any change in the relations due to this particular policy would lead to the deterioration of relationship between China and that Country. One reason for this is China's Geopolitical vulnerability, it doesn't want any other power to detect or change the rules of their country and way of business.

Significance for India:

Taiwan is the fifth largest economy in Asia and largest outside the United Nations. India has abundant natural bamboo resources whereas Taiwan has the worlds most advanced bamboo technologies. Both sides have expanded Educational exchanges on a mutual degree on recognition of agreement in higher education in 2010. Taiwanese companies are also providing their foreign direct investments, Technologies, People, Experience in a country like India. Taiwan's Agricultural technology and food processing technology can benefit Indian farmers too. Taiwan for long has been called worlds leader in High-tech, hardware, Manufacturing and can contribute to making India a digital India, smart India, Make up India and more.

These opportunities should also be recognized by India. Even if leads to the deterioration between the relationship of India and China. As china doesn't recognize the Aksai-Chin and Arunachal Pradesh as part of India but instead recognizes them as a part of south Tibet which is part of its own country then in this way India should also retaliate by considering Taiwan as another democratic country present in Asia and not a part of China.

Thankyou🌼
