Hello everyone i hope you all are doing well and fine. Hope the Diwali season is making you all happy with all the sweets and snacks, the meetings and greetings. And i hope you are making sure that the environment and your own health is taken care of which of course means do not burst any fire crackers Diwali can be fun without the fire crackers. 

After a very long time i am writing about a country and the tourism side of me is very happy. Why sri Lanka you may ask. I correctly came across a podcast that included a lot about Sri Lanka and the civil war in specific. That got me into searching about Sri Lanka especially about the civil war that lasted for 30 years. And from reading and searching i came across 10 such things that i did not know about Sri Lanka and thought of sharing them with you all. 

Here are ten things that you did not know about Sri Lanka. 

  1. Cinnamon is native to Sri Lanka and was first found on the island. 
  2. Adam's peak is the mountain that has been deemed to be the location of buddhas last foot step and also where Adam was exiled to from Eden. 
  3. Sri Lanka has one of the highest literacy rate of one of the south asian countries. 
  4. Sri Lanka is home to oldest human planted tree in the world and it originated from the piece of the tree buddha sat against. 
  5. there was a civil war which just ended in 2009 which lasted for three decades. 
  6. volleyball is the national sport of Sri Lanka 
  7. Sri Lanka is one of the top exporter of tea in the world. they export about 1.3billion dollars worth tea. 
  8. the first women prime minister in the world was in Sri Lanka. 
  9. stilt fishing use to be a common practice but is no longer in use. rather it is now used for tourists to take pictures. 
  10. the design of the lion holding the sword on the flag is one of the oldest in the world and it dates back to 400 BC.
