But Po follows and confronts Shen, thereby ruining the scheme and making it possible for the Five to be apprehended. Shen fires a cannon at Po after lying to him and claiming that his parents detested him. Po, who is critically injured but still alive, floats downstream and is saved by the soothsayer. She informs him of the genocide against the pandas and exhorts him to accept his past. After finding inner peace at last, Po recalls how his mother concealed him in a radish crate and how his father repelled the army while he was dependent on Shen's army to survive.After being restored, Po makes his way back to Gongmen City, where Shen is bringing his army and guns downriver. After Po sets the Five free, they are able to destroy the leading ships and keep the army from reaching the harbor with the aid of Masters Ox, Croc, and Shifu. To make room, Lord Shen discharges a cannon, killing a few of his own warriors.

Po stands by himself against Shen, deflecting the cannonballs aimed at him back to the fleet, destroying it with his newly discovered inner-peace abilities. Shen rejects Po's offer of pity and throws a spear at him. Shen is killed as one of the cannons falls onto the ship due to an inadvertent severing of the wires supporting it. Shifu and the Five congratulate Po, and on his way back to the Valley, Po declares his love for his adoptive father and his identity as Mr. Ping's son once more. Meanwhile, it is discovered that Po's original father is still alive and that he can sense his son at a hidden panda hamlet in the mountains.
