Our lives are controlled by time, there are many sayings that we use to describe time, yet we know little about time, it is one of the unexplained mysteries of life, we use phrases like since the beginning of time, how do we know when time began?

Nobody really knows who invented the concept of time and yet we have many ways to measure time such as the number of hours in a day found on a clock and the calendar which divides time further into days, months and years.

By accident, I watched an old movie called The Gods Must be Crazy, it shows an ancient tribal people living in Africa, they have no contact with the civilized world and do not follow the concept of time.

This made me realise the power of time over our lives, everything has a deadline, we need to go to school for a certain number of years, as adults we have to work for a living and when we are old we retire.

Our lives are structured around how we spend our time, no matter what we do time moves forward for better or for worse, once an action is done we have to live with the results.

The biggest problem with time is that it does not come with a rewind or replay button, it is beyond our control, unfortunately we spend a lot of time thinking about the past despite the fact that nothing that we say or do will change the reality.

There is no way to slow it down when we are having fun and make it go faster when we have to do something that is avoidable, there is no way to escape time, it takes control of us and we can do nothing about it.

Besides the calendar, the one thing that everyone cannot avoid is the clock, a device that shows us the time, we take the clock for granted and yet we cannot live without it.

Everywhere we look, there are devices that reminds us of time, smart watches, smartphones, smart television and smart assistants, we keep a track of our activities using these devices which shows that time is the centre of attention in our daily lives.

We need to expect the unexpected when it comes to time, it is said time is money, there are many distractions in our daily lives and we find it difficult to focus on the task at hand.

There is no way to predict how long we are going to live, it is dependent on a number of factors, this makes it all the more important that we know what we want from life and use the time that we have to the best of our abilities.

It is difficult to imagine living a life without time, we would be no different from animals, there would be no reason for living and we would be mindlessly going through the cycle of daily life.

Time is a mystery, it makes it possible for us to achieve something, decide how we want to spend our time and move forward and live life on our own terms.
