Dandruff is a condition that occurs when small bits and pieces of dry skin, keep on collecting in your hair and stick to your scalp, causing the skin to itch, scalp dryness, skin shedding and the white flakes to fall on your shoulders. The white flakes also contains dead skin cells that collects due to the oil in the hair and they fall off at a abnormally fast rate.

We tend to ignore it, but dandruff is not something that we should take for granted, it can affect the normal growth of hair and it indicates the growth of fungus which does not have any visible symptoms.

Both dandruff and dryness of the scalp, causes one to feel discomfort and distracted, this condition usually becomes better with reducing the use of hair shampoo, there is no hard and fast rule that says using anti dandruff shampoo is a permanent cure, I know from personal experience that using hair cream and anti dandruff shampoo does not resolve the problem.

You are most likely to get dandruff, if you use too much hair oil or hair cream such as coconut oil or bylcreem, the excessive use of gels while washing your hair which gives it a greasy feel and appearance and head feels itchy even when you sweat a lot and it is not dry depending upon the weather conditions.

During the winter season, the problem of dandruff can get worse, due to the dry and cold air.

We must remember that dandruff is not contagious, you cannot get dandruff, just because you use the same hairbrush.

There is a difference between flakes due to dry scalp are smaller and lighter, whereas dandruff flakes are usually bigger and oily with a slightly yellow colour.

We must take note of the indicators, when the presence of dandruff is severe, it can affect large areas of the scalp causing redness and swelling. The use of shampoo depending upon your hair type, does nothing to reduce the itching and the falling of dandruff pieces over a period of time.

There are some remedies that we can use to deal with the problem of dandruff, like using a mild shampoo that does not contain too many chemicals that are harmful for your hair. We can rinse our hair with a shampoo that works for us, at least twice a week, if possible during the summer months.

We can reduce the gels and hair styling products that we use on our hair, it helps to consult an expert, instead of using something that does nothing to reduce the dandruff problem.

Drinking water can also help in reducing dandruff, it moisturizes the skin and allows the blood to reach your scalp, which reduces the dryness causing dandruff flakes.

It is also a good idea spend some time in the sun, to let the sunlight reach your scalp, it helps to control the dandruff.

One can try using aloe vera, it contains anti bacterial and anti fungal properties, that reduces dandruff and keeps your hair strong and healthy.

To conclude, dandruff is a problem that affects all of us and does not go away easily, we need to try different ways and find out what works best for us and take the necessary steps to deal with it in an effective manner.
