A logo is defined as a unique image, sign, symbol or anything that is used by a commercial enterprise to make a business product recognisable and catches the attention of the viewer.
There are some famous brand logos that remain in our minds, although it depends upon individual interests there are some which are easily recognised by us such as Pepsi cola, Coca cola, Google, Apple, Amazon prime, Netflix, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and the list goes on.
The question is how do businesses whether big or small can get a logo that creates a positive and long lasting image in the minds of the viewer.
Here are some ways this can be done:
A) When designing a logo we need to ask ourselves some questions such as what is it that catches the attention of the viewer, how would they feel when they see the logo, these are major questions because a logo needs to not only be eye catching, it must make the viewer curious and want to learn more about the brand, some examples of famous business logos that have achieved this are Apple, Microsoft, Nike and Facebook.
B) The design of a business logo is dependent upon our target audience, the youth are attracted to signs and symbols as they are in the learning phase and are asking questions all the time, I have noticed that fast food logos such as kfc, McDonald's, Domino's Pizza are easily recognised by children because not only is fast food liked and popular with them the logos are easy to remember.
C) There are familiar brands like Dell, IBM, coca cola, pepsi, cadburys etc.that have been present with us for a long time and although there have changed with the times, their logos have stood the test of time and are still with us after all these years because they are able to connect with the customer and create a positive impression with them.
D) In order to reach out to a wider audience, one can design a business logo that contains words, single letters of the alphabet, pictures or symbols so that it stays in the mind of the customer, for example Mercedes uses a symbol whereas BMW uses letters and burger King uses an image and words, all these have made it easier to be recognised by anyone regardless of where they live.
E) It helps to keep your business logo short and simple, for example when you see makemytrip or yatra, the words used gives you an idea that these sites are about travel.
F) Another way to get the attention of the customer is the use of animals with your business logo such as jaguar cars that uses the jaguar animal, Lacoste clothing which uses a crocodile and twitter which uses a bird as its logo.
G) The colours that we use to highlight a business logo can make a difference for example Levi's jeans, Baskin Robbins and FedEx use colour to highlight the brand name and makes it easier for the customer to remember the brand in future.
In the end business logos need to be designed in such a way that it is one of a kind and makes a lasting impression in the minds of the customer.
