'Hidme Markam' you may or may not have heard the name but the matter related to this name is must know for all, at least if you are a part of India.
Hidme Markam, a tribal rights activist was arrested on International Women's Day that was on 9 March without an arrest warrant.
The Adivasi women has gathered to remember the two women who allegedly lost their lives to police voilence.
The triggers of the meeting were death of Pande Kowasi and a teenager from Sameli village.
Kowasi died on 23 February in police custody. The police claimed that Kowasi hung herself to death but according to her mother she had faced physical and sexual abuse, proofs of which she acquired from her daughter's body.
Second girl, a teenager had hung herself to death in December 2018. 3 months prior to this incident she was found injured and unconscious near a rivulet and her family claimed that she was raped by armed security officers.
The occasion of Women's day was to remember women who suffered at the hands of security personnel but instead another woman fell prey to the 'in power' officers.
Chhattisgarh police arrested Hidme Markam from a gathering in Dantewada district of the state and was charged under UAPA.
The tribal activist was defended by another prominent leader and activist Soni Sori who said that she had accompanied her to several meetings with state officials.
Along with that Hidme Markam was also supported by secretary of Jail Bandi Rihai Manch Sujit Karma who said “How can the Dantewada SP claim Markam to be a Maoist with a one-lakh reward, when he has also met her on several occasions?” in a statement.
This arrest is one of the many examples of attempts to suppress the voice of Adivasi and Tribal group, a direct attack on democracy and freedom of the country.
The cases filed against the activist were vague and even the police had a confused documentation.
The reasons of arrest provided one day were different from the ones another day. It just implies how disorganized cases have been and have a big possibility to be just a made up accusation to suppress the voice of protest. Not to forget the arrest was without a warrant.

Hidme Markam has already openly denied any faith in government, as government only stands with big businessmen and companies whereas Adivasis have to take their own fight, any support for Adivasi and Tribal groups is marked anti-national.
The Adivasi rights activist has be very active and forward in peaceful and legal battles against the arrest of the people in false charges but now she herself faces the charges that even the accusers were not clear about.
The suppression by authorities isn't ending unless we all stand in solidarity against it. Custodial violence and police brutality isn't new and no one deserves this. As privileged some people can consider themself safer at this point but choosing to let the unprivilaged suffer and be suppressed isn't an option.
"It means a great deal to those who are oppressed to know that they are not alone. Never let anyone tell you that what you are doing is insignificant."
