On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured recipients of the Param Vir Chakra by renaming 21 islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago. The suggested model for a memorial honouring Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was also unveiled on the occasion of the 126th anniversary of the poet's birth.

Since Subhas Chandra Bose first raised the national flag in this region in 1943, the prime minister declared, "Today is a proud day for me as I address the people of Andamans."

Major Somnath Sharma, Lt. Colonel (later Major) Dhan Singh Thapa, Subedar Joginder Singh, Major Shaitan Singh, Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid, and 2nd Lt. are just a few of the prominent soldiers whose names are attached to the islands.

Both Arun Khetrapal and Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon. The islands will serve as a "place of inspiration for centuries to come," according to Modi.

Speaking to the virtual gathering, Modi emphasised the significance of the area by stating that the Andaman Islands are the place where the tricolour was first flown.

"The tricolour was raised for the first time in this region of Andaman. where the first iteration of independent India's government was established. The anniversary of Netaji Subhash Bose's birth is today. This day is recognised as Parakram Diwas across the nation "PM Modi stated.

On Ross Island, which was renamed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep in 2018, the intended memorial will be built. In addition to a restaurant lounge, it will have a museum, a cable car ropeway, a laser and sound show, a guided heritage walk through historical buildings, and a children's amusement park with a theme.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, earlier applauded the Centre for its decision to name 21 islands after recipients of the Param Vir Chakra. He claimed that no other nation had ever honoured its soldiers in this way on such a grand scale.

According to Shah, "Today, this initiative of PM Modi, under which names of our Paramveer Chakra winners have been attached with 21 large islands of the Andaman-Nicobar Islands in an endeavour to perpetuate their memory as long as this earth lasts," will strengthen the army's zeal.

Shah also praised the Andaman Islands' well-known tourist attraction, the cellular jail, saying that it is not only a prison but also a wonderful destination of pilgrimage.

"In addition to being a prison, Cellular Jail is a revered site for the fight for freedom. This region of the country received the honour of gaining independence first, and the leader personally unfurled the tricolour to mark the occasion "explained Shah.
