For IPL 2023, AB de Villiers has stated that he will return to Royal Challengers Bangalore, just not as a player. The former captain of South Africa did not participate in RCB's campaign after declaring his retirement from all forms of cricket, but he promises to return to the team in some other position. De Villiers also stated that he had retired from cricket due to recent eye surgery. Having said that, ABD, the one and only Mr. 360 degree, will visit the Chinnaswamy again the following year when the IPL returns to its original venue to show his support for the RCB as they attempt to end their championship drought.
"The following year, I'll visit Chinnaswamy Stadium. yet not for a game of cricket. I'm going to apologise to the RCB supporters for the team's lack of success in the IPL thus far. I also want to express my gratitude for their assistance over the past ten years. I am no longer able to play cricket. I had my right eye operated on, "During a conversation on social media, De Villiers remarked.
De Villiers discussed a variety of subjects, including his future intentions, in addition to discussing the launch of his new YouTube channel. Coaching is a profession that De Villiers is clearly not drawn to at this time. De Villiers wants to spend time with his family after retiring from a bright career since coaching would involve tedious travelling schedule.
"I have no intention of being a team coach. I adore teaching others what I have learned and will learn. I won't, however, be resuming my coaching career or my global travels. I'm excited to spend some time at home after 18 years of travel "Added he.
De Villiers disclosed that he received an invitation to participate in the Legends League Cricket, which is presently taking place in India, but had to decline the offer owing to recent eye surgery. Several former cricket players will be competing in The Legends League, but despite how alluring the offer was, De Villiers was unable to take the chance of hurting his eye.
"I've grown too old. It appears like Legends League is a lot of fun. Although I underwent an eye procedure, I was invited. I'm aware that you might think I can play with one eye, but I'd like not "said he.
