This vlog is continuation of my previous Blog.Read below to know about the truth of kuldhara village.
Kuldhara village:Kuldhara is a village located near Jaisalmer in the state of Rajasthan. It was supposedly one of the most prosperous and wealthiest village during 17th and 18th century but today this village lies in ruins, you will not find a single person living there.Paliwal Brahmins were rich and powerful community of Malwa which was often attacked by the Muslim rulers which led ruler of Malwa to impose a heavy tax on the Paliwal community as a war contribution but when they refused to pay ,the ruler banished them from his territory.Paliwals started searching for new home which is when they established kuldhara Village ,it fluorished over a period of time but one day people of this village vanished overnight during late nineteenth century. There are couple of versions to justify this sudden desertification.
Version 1: According to a legend Selene Singh told ,ruler of jaisalmer fell in Love with one of the girls from paliwal community. He threatened the paliwals to bear the consequences if they will not approve his marriage with that girl. They were surely not willing to accept his threat so the community decided to flee from the village during the night. It is said they carried all the treasure they could and buried the rest and before leaving the village they cursed “No one will be able to live or thrive in this village”.
Version 2:Mughals were frequently invading the Kuldhara village since the people were rich and the villagers found it difficult to resist their invasions so fed up by this villagers decided to leave this village. But it is also said that since Kuldhara was situated close to Jaisalmer some historians believe that Mughals would have not invaded this village as it would have sparked war with the ruler of Jaisalmer.
Version 3:Another version of it tells that Kuldhara was facing major water crisis during early 19th century because their wells dried and hence this led to low agricultural output and therefore they found it difficult to cope with their daily needs. This way they were left with no option other than abandoning the village. But it's also said that kuldhara was well connected to a river thus ruling out this possibility.
What so ever the truth is , the fact is today this village lies in ruins. Today it is managed by archeological Department of India and is open to common people as a tourist site.
