Introduction-

          Amid this time of trial and tribulation one of the most common problems that many people across the globe are facing, is insomnia. Insomnia may become a serious concern, if not treated timely and properly. 

What is Insomnia?-

          Insomnia is a common sleep order where a person finds it difficult to fall asleep or to stay in sleep throughout the night.

Symptoms of Insomnia-

  • Generally the people, suffering from this disease, used to wake up too early in the morning.
  • The sleep at night does not give any refreshment to the person.
  • The patients feel trouble falling asleep.
  • Due to the lack of sleep, the person feels fatigue throughout the day. Dizziness occurs to such patients.
  • Mood swing is the common symptom of this disease. People may feel irritated most of the time.
  • The persons,suffering from insomnia, can hardly focus on anything and they used to have problems with memory.

Types of Insomnia-

      Generally, there are three types of Insomnia, namely Acute Insomnia, Transient Insomnia and Chronic Insomnia. Acute Insomnia may last upto one month whereas Transient Insomnia may last upto four to five days. Chronic Insomnia is comparatively fatal and may last more than one month. 

Causes of Insomnia-

       The causes of Insomnia are wide and variant.

  • Anxiety, depression and other mental issues have significant contribution to insomnia. Stress regarding work schedule, health or worry over economic distress nay keep your mind engage in incessant thoughts and thus lead to the difficulty to sleep. Any kind of traumatic experience like facing any accident,or losing any loved one or any serious illness in the family may lead to insomnia.
  • Irregular sleep habits or the lack of proper sleep environment can disrupt your sleep schedule. Watching T.V. or mobile phone or any type of screens before bed can be harmful regarding your sleep cycle.
  • Consumption of heavy foods before bed time results in uncomfortable physical situation while lying down. Especially having oily foods or junk foods may cause gas or acidity which can keep you awake at night.
  • Even certain medications for allergies, asthma may lead to insomnia.
  • Any kind of pain,like the pain due to Artharitis may discomfort you and interrupt your sleep at night.
  • Addictions like the excessive intake of caffeine, tobacco or alcohol are significant in the case of insomnia.
  • Hormonal imbalance during menstruation, menopause can be the cause for insomnia.
  • Apart from these, insomnia suggests some underlying serious medical conditions sometimes. People who are suffering from cardiovascular disease or people on dialysis may experience insomnia.

Prevention of Insomnia-

  • Try to be regular regarding your sleep hours. Going to bed at the same time may habituate your body to get accustomed with that particular time for sleeping.
  • Create a peaceful ambience at the bed time. It will help you to fall asleep in no time. Your bed should not be too hard or too soft. Use a mattress that will be comfortable for you.
  • Go for the light exercises on a regular basis. Even 30minutes walk each day may enable you to be stress free and subsequently will be beneficial for a good night's sound sleep.
  • Be restricted regarding the consumption of caffeine. Better to go for a warm milk before the bed time. Avoid smoking and alcohol.
  • Adore warm birth and aroma therapy to refresh your body and mind.
  • Keep away over thinking. Try to do the documentation of your worries. Write down your thoughts in a diary and make a plan for tomorrow. Avoid the negative emotions while going for sleep.
  • Don't indulge the day time slumber. It may be fatal for your sleep at night. The habit of meditation before the bed time may be benign to prevent insomnia.
