Hello friends, welcome back to another blog of mine as we all know Lohri is around the corner so first of a very happy Lohri to all the readers so I am going to talk some interesting facts about this festival. Lohri is basically a harvest festival celebrated mark to both celebration and sharing. This festival prompts to be thankful for God’s provision to celebrate his creation focus on farming. In Punjab where wheat is the main crop it the month of October where crops are sown and the month of March- April is the time to harvest the farmers celebrate this festival before cutting and gathering of their crops for Punjabis this is not only a festival it is also a example of way of life. Lohri is also considered as a culmination of chilly winter on this festival men and women perform Punjabi folk dances like bhangra and giddha around a bonfire. Logs of woods are piled together in a bonfire and friends and relatives gather around it they go around three times and giving offerings of popcorns, rayveri and sweets and than beat to the dhol and people dance around the fire prasad of til, gajak, peanuts is distributed. This festival is also considered lucky occasion of newly born or arrival of new bride in the family the day ends with a traditional feast of sarson ka saag makki ki roti. accept traditional this festival also have some scientific aspect Lohri is celebrated on January 13 just a day before Makar Sankranti and Makar Sankranti falls in the day of Shishir Ritu the fiercest form of winter season in this season the amount of air is increase due to severe cold this also marks beginning of a period Aadan kaal or the sun goes down to the northern hemisphare also marking introduction of roughness in skin as we all know in Lohri celebration the important ritual is Lohri puja which is directly associated with sun. fire and earth all this three things important elements like sun represent life , earth represent food and fire represent the health element as we all know how these three elements are important for the foundation of human life so this is special blog for special festival that gives us some priceless moments of joy.
