Hi Friends!Good day all!!!

With yet another religious topic with little what I know. True, this is about the Dhanu month or Dhanur Mas or the month of Margazhi.

This month is considered the most auspicious of all the reason being, we know that Lord Vishnu is considered the Supreme Lord ( the Paramathma) because he himself manifests that he is a Paramathma and life on earth started from him to Arjuna before the Kurukshetra war. Similarly, Lord Krishna Manifests himself that, among all the months he is said to be the Margashisha Month which is Dhanur Mas. In Bhagavat Gita in Chapter 10 and Verse 35 .viz,

Verse:
Brihat Sāma thathā samnām gāyatrī chhandasām aham|

Māsānām mārga-śhīrsho ham ritūnām kusūmakarah||

 Translation:

Amongst the hymns in the Samaveda know me to be the Brihatsama. Among the poetic meters I am the Gayatri. Of the twelve months in the Hindu calendar  I am the Margashish and I'm the spring season which brings  forth flowers.

Having known the greatness of this month. It is believed that we get the merits of performing the Ashwamedha yaga if we pray the Lord in a regular basis in this month. The best time to give your prayers in this month is during the Bramha Muhurtam (4.00am to 5.00am).

Prayers Said During Margazhi :

  1. Suprabatham:

Hymn Sung to wake up Lord MahaVishnu. It's done on a daily basis in Tirumala Thirupathi Devastanam.

2. Thirupalliyezhuchi:

It is a Hymn Sung to wake up the lord again but it is referred to Lord Sri Ranganatha in Sri Rangam.

3. Thiruppavai:

It's a Hymn that's composed by an azhvār Andāl nāchiyar. By waking the young women to accompany for a bath in yamuna river and for offering her prayers to Lord Krishna. It is said she made a flower garland for the Lord everyday and offered it to the Lord.

4. Thiruvembavai:

It's a Hymn composed by Manikavadagar. It is in praise of Lord Shiva.

Apart from this the Dhanur month is best known for two auspicious days namely Vaikunta Ekadasi and Arudhra Darshanam.

Vaikunta Ekadasi is in praise of Lord Vishnu. Arudhra Darshanam is I'm praise of Lord Shiva.

I'll write a separate blog on Vaikunta Ekadasi and Arudhra Darshanam. Meet you all in the next blog.
