Thanks to just retired Army Chief General Manoj I Mukund Naravane for starting a debate on what India can and should learn from the Ukraine war. Recently he has written an article, in which his intelligence, clarity and realism are reflected. He lists four important lessons. First, the nature of the battlefield has also changed over time. If you take World War I, the invention of the tank 3 by 5 was born out of trench warfare. This was done to break the impasse. 1 Invention Cavalry First, the machine gun was used to disarm an army and send soldiers into trenches. Second, the 20th century saw the pitched battle between tank and anti-tank weapons reach a different level. Third, drones of some sort first appeared in the late 1990s, and it didn't take long for military scientists and industry to turn them into weapons of war. Now the Ukraine war has shown just how devastating they can be. Fourth, from the point of view of the Ukraine war, modern warfare is questioning the future of large armored vehicles, warships, and manned fighter-bombers.this fight in ukraine aGeneral Naravane is saying that technological change often comes first and then the military leadership uses them according to the times. But not always. The history of the First World War is replete with sad stories of British generals hurling cavalry in front of machine guns. in a war like thisThe soldiers of the colonies, especially India, suffered the most. From the Crimean War (1853-56) to the Boer War (1999-1902) many disasters and two world wars happened because of the blunders of the military leadership. All this inspired Norman Dixon to write his classic book 'On the Psychology of Military Incapacitates'. Since Dixon wrote about some of the British, some of them were not prosecuted openly. His book is today taught as a textbook in military academies of all countries including India. I have also been gifting copies of this book to young journalists who want to cover the military field. I want them to understand 'both' sides. I would like to humbly say that armies are sometimes so clinging to traditions and so intellectually isolated that they tend to be slow to change, not always quick. Second issue, talk about tanks. ukraine war tanks We can also learn from this that how old is the theory of the Soviet era, in which a large number of armored vehicles and a huge army used to trample the plains of Europe. Open intelligence sources confirm with videos and photographs that Russia has destroyed about 1500 tanks and twice as many other armored vehicles. This is when there was no major tank-vs-tank battle. Ukraine has taken all precautions not to be seen. they usually stay in the background
