OCD, a mental disorder or better to say a neuropsychiatric disorder because it occurs due to disbalance in two of the important neurotransmitter chemicals namely “dopamine” and “serotonin” of the brain is gaining speed in today's stressful world. So, what is this ocd which have affected many of the people including famous celebrities like farhan akhtar , donald trumph ,beckham etc on this globe???         OCD means obsessive compulsion disorder which affects individuals of all age .

OBSESSIONS are persistent , uncontrollable thoughts, impulses or images that are unwanted and disturbing. They cause anxiety and discomfort which leads to “compulsions” that is to perform repetitive actions. For example - a person with an obsessive fear of dirt or germs will wash his / her hands very frequently than normal. The compulsions take this disease to it's more advanced stage . In some individuals with minor ocd  the obsessions are very difficult to analyze but one can slightly notice the compulsions . In an individual with an higher stages of ocd both the obsessions and compulsions are visible on very face of the patient .

The cure of ocd includes proper diagnosis by neuropsychiatric doctors and class of drugs termed as SSRI's ( standard serotonin reuptake inhibitor). 

One should not start taking this drug or leave medication in between without consulting the doctor otherwise it may worsen the situation.

We should be polite with such patient and help them as because OCD patient may look as calm and silent as an standing river but an hurricane of anxiety lives inside them .only then can feel their pain. 

 I am one among those ocdiiian's and I suffer from obsession of fear of gas cylinder leakage of my house so earlier forcefully my mind uses to command me to check the gas regulator which is was compulsion!! My life had became hell and sometimes it was tooo scary. I felt difficulty in doing my all works as my mind always stood upon gas regulator but then after we consulted to an neuropsychiatrist and it's my 6 month of ssri treatment and i can tell you now i am free of anxiety and obsessions . The doctors will not only provide you medications but also side by side behavior therapies and proper counseling are also provided.

Ssri 's have its own merits and dmerits. Merits include cure of disorder but demerits may depend from patient to patient for example increased appetite , increased sedation (sleep) , dehydration , etc. Demerits are very few and minor . Their is nothing much to  fear about them
