Everyday Words Part - I

Hey everyone, I am starting vocabulary series which I am learning. I am sharing those with you all hoping these may help. 

1.Adventitious: Just kind of happen, unplanned, accidental, coming from outside (foreign, external).

etymology: advenire- arrive

Sentence: 

It was strange how you can run into people in such an adventitious way.

The Shimla trip we went last week was an adventitious trip never though with heavy rain we would visit there.

2.Colloquial: Language + slang, used in ordinary conversation, not formal.

Sentence:

He impresses his client with his simple and colloquial style. 

The old man didnt understand the language of design so we had to explain him everything in colloquial language. 

3.Pugnacious: Quarrelsome, quick to argue.

etymology: pugnus- fist, pugnare- to fight.

Sentence: 

The public statements became increasing pugnacious after they released the statement of their marriage stating she is not fit for him. 

Mu's grandfather was pugnacious towards his father. 

4.Plumb: Measure, test

Sentence:

I plumbed to shelf it is seven meter in width.

Civil Students were all set with their instruments to plum the ground and complete their practicals. 

5.Extol: Praise enthusiatically.

etymology: ex- outward, tollere- raise

Sentence: 

I extolled my roomate for clearing GATE examination. 

When for the first time my niece wore a saree elders extolled her for looking very beautiful.

6.Munificent: Display great generosity

etymology: munificus- bountiful(large in quantity), munus- gift

Sentence: 

I am going to attend a munificient dinner tonight. 

I visited my bestfriends family for the first time on her wedding, they were really munificent i really enjoed being there.

7.Doggeral: Poetry that is irregular in rhythm(in comic effect) 

Sentence:

Nisha wrote a Doggerel listening to it i couldnt stop laughing for an hour.

Now a days songs are doggerel they dont have a soul like the old times. 

8.Plebeian: belonging to a lower class

etymology: pleb- the common people

Sentence: 

The girl has a plebeian taste.

It was family Jing's annual function where plebeian people were not invited, it felt too much of proud people roaming al over.

9.Buccaneer: a Pirate

Sentence:

My friend was sheltered in house which belonged to the buccaneer.

One piece is a buccaneer series. Which shows how one can enjoy their way towards their Goal no matter it is do or die.

10. Preen: Making small adjustments (especially on appeareance)

Sentence:

Boys like to preen their hair every now and then, I really dont understand why they are so obssesed with their hairs.

When she was about to try the dress in which she was going to walk on the ramp, she got to know that someone has tore it and was not wearable. she made preens with a scarf she borowed from her friends and continue her ramp walk.
