How many of you know the national tree of Tamil Nadu? It will come as a surprise to many that the honor belongs to the palm tree.
The question arises in everyone's mind that innumerable trees grow and flourish in the fertile Tamil land, what is the purpose of this palm tree? Palm is another plant that the Tamils used more than bananas, who knew how to use all parts of the banana that grows like a banana.
The palm tree
Apart from that, 80 percent of the total palm trees grown in India are in Tamil Nadu. Perhaps this is a recognition of the palm as it has been bearing the precious Tamil property of Ilak Kiyam in its ripe leaves (Olai) for generations? A palm tree belonging to the Borerus plant family can grow up to 30 meters at most. Tamils called it "Karpakhataru that gives what you ask for". The reason is that the roofs of Palandamizhar houses were covered with palm leaves to protect them from the intense heat.
Palm tree parts are special
For this purpose they made Utras out of palm trees and stored many goods in boxes and crevices made from palm rinds. They hung pots containing milk products from palm fronds and lay down on mats made of palm fronds. They used palm brooms and palm fiber ropes. Palm fans, umbrellas, earrings, children's play windmills, palm fronds, panangs, door-steps, barriers, boxes for fish and meats are abundant in Tamil life. Apart from all these, the palm is intertwined with its various parts in the life of Tamils such as palm nungu, palm jaggery, panangakandu, panambalam, padaneer, panangijangu. Palm fruit is super nutritious. Vitamin A, also known as beta-carotene, in papaya is very good for eyesight. Like Tamil Nadu, palm trees were also grown in Jaffna, Mannar and Vadamarachi areas where Tamils live a lot. The Tamils there made jam, soft drinks and food products from the pulp obtained from the palm fruit.
Heat is quenched. It consists of three parts namely palm leaf, bat and padal. Batal is black on the underside of the bat. During that time, the poor villagers in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts used to cut pattals and wear them as sandals. They will attach palm fiber to the top. When you wear it, your feet will feel soft and you will be able to work for long days. Road workers wear leather sandals. If the bottom is worn out, two other pieces are cut to make sandals. Tumbu is the black wire-like firmness at the base of the fronds of the wadali palm during the growing season. It is from this trunk that machines make wipers for cleaning ships. Palm leaves are our treasures. It's amazing how they made them.
