MADURAI MEENATCHI AMMAN TEMPLE
Myths and traditions abound around the shrine. It is thought that while traveling through Madurai, Indra came across the Swayambhu lingam and enshrined it. Texts from antiquity mention this temple, which was totally destroyed in 1310. In the fourteenth century, the temple was brought back to its former splendor. With its fourteen temple towers, each measuring between forty and fifty meters in height, it is truly an architectural wonder. Another noteworthy feature is a hall supported by 1000 finely carved pillars. Different scales of sounds are produced by certain musical pillars.
KUTRAALANATHAR SWAMY KOVIL
One of Nataraja's (Lord Shiva's) five sabhas, Chitra Sabha, is housed at the Kutralanatha Swamy Temple.
