Today let's travel through the streets of Maharashtra. A constant in every joint with variations in flavor but no variation in emotion is what we are going to look into. Let me introduce you to the snack called “Indian Burger". Ok lets get it straight, it's “The Vada Pav”. You can also call it a ‘Mumbaikars Staple’.
This snack first started in 1960's with a person who opened a stall in Dadar station after observing thousands of people wanting something inexpensive to eat on the go. Soon it turned out to be a huge hit!
What made it great and quite popular might be many of yours question. Right? It's cheap, easy-to-make and convenient to eat. Also it gained popularity among the masses who had no time or luxury to eat. It was even stated to be an addiction in 1970's and 1980's.
Enough of talks, let's go and make one to munch on.
Recipe - Desi Vada Pav
Ingredients - Pav (According to your appetite), Potato (4 - For 4 to 6 medium vada's), Powdered spices (salt, chilli-powder, coriander-powder), Corn flour (2 table spoons), Gram flour ( 5 table spoons), Oil (for deep fry), Green chillies (10 slitted), Onion (half sliced), Lemon (1).
Procedure
Garnish - Fry slitted green chillies in oil with salt (This cuts the starchiness of the potato patty).
Arrangement - Apply Ginger crumb chutney in the between layers of pav and place the vada. Additional condiments include salt fried green chillies, sliced onion and a piece of lemon. You can also accompany the dish with a mint chutney and tomato sauce as per your taste palate.
Now its ready to serve!!
Look how simple it is. Kudos to a great idea that has almost lead none to sleep hungry on the roads of Maharashtra.
