Farhana (Aishwarya Rajesh), a Muslim woman with little education, resides with her husband Karim (Jithan Ramesh) and their three young children.  The same home is occupied by her orthodox father Boots Bhai (Kitty), her sisters, and their families.  In order to escape poverty because the family business is completely bankrupt, Farhana accepts a job at a contact centre against her father's wishes and excels there.  Farhana switches to a chat method that offers five times as much incentive as her present procedure when her child falls unwell and needs surgery. She accepts the anonymous, invisible male clients' sexual frustrations directed at her, despite her first shock.

Then a strange caller enters her life and seems to merely seek a conversation partner with whom to discuss his opinions rather than anything sexual.  He also speaks for hours, protecting her from other filthy males, which is delightful to the orthodox woman who has never had anybody to discuss her opinions with.   But when one of the girls is killed, the enigmatic guy starts a deadly game of cat and mouse, in which Farhana also poses a threat to her family's well-being.   The rest of the movie focuses on what occurs next and if the heroine can escape the seeming psychopath's grasp.

Another engaging work by high-concept filmmaker Nelson Venkatesan, with an interesting cat-and-mouse struggle in an unusual location. As layers of suspense develop, Farhana, headed by the excellent Aishwarya Rajesh, provides tense moments. While it largely still manages to be interesting, some of the moments seem a little too lengthy and convenient.

When Farhana (Aishwarya Rajesh) is returning home in a metro after one of her several heart-pounding moments, she falls on the lap of an unassuming elderly woman and starts to cry. When a second stranger, a lady, notices this and the interest it sparks across the compartment, she advances a bit nearer Farhana to shield her from the onlookers' prying eyes. It's fantastic to see a man director add such clever and adorable scenes we seldom see in women-fronted films at a time when movie fans are using social media to praise males characters created by women, which we simply can't get enough of. After a spectacular sophomore effort in the form of SJ Suryah's Monster, director Nelson Venkatesan, who accomplished the same with his first feature Oru Naal Koothu, returns to his tried-and-true territory to give us Farhana, an intriguing drama that touches upon a number of subjects.
