Switzerland!!! A country which everyone wants to visit once in a lifetime. We always get fascinated by the beauty of the Swiss. Our first encounter with European countries is through our academic books and world war stories.Just try to remember the participation of Switzerland in both wars. That's right, we do not remember such thing, as the country was not part of axis and allied powers. Then how they remain neutral? That's what this blog is about.

              Switzerland is landlocked country. It is bordered to the west by France, to the north by Germany, to the east by Austria and Lichtenstein and to the south by Italy like shown in below map.

                   Now one can imagine how geographically deadly position this country had during world wars.But they follow foreign policy known as 'Swiss Neutrality" since the final defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815.After evacuation of french military from Swiss territory, Switzerland decided that they will remain neutral to warfare as defense mechanism. 

                Neutrality of Switzerland is armed one.Swiss army always know as best fighters in Europe and they use to get hired by other countries for fighting in their wars. Swiss Alps mountain range stands as protecting wall for country and both axis and allied power wanted to use Switzerland as buffer zone during wars.

                 Few strategies they used keep themselves neutral.After raise of Hitler and invasion of Germans in France along with Paris, Swiss Military took immediate action and secretly pile up explosives and bombs beneath main transport roads, tunnels and railway tracks which were connected to all neighborhood countries of Switzerland.Some major road blasts were done to block outer army.6,50,000 army was mobilized to borders of the nation within 3 days of french invasion. 

                 They build huge hidden bunkers and fortress in Alps range filled with guns and all military supplies where all-time-ready-to-fight Swiss army resides. They build it in such a way, if anyone sees those buildings from outside, he may think it is house of common man. These bunkers were huge and were able to hide whole Swiss population in it if time comes.

           Switzerland continued their trading with all countries as a part of neutrality policy. Germany stored their huge chunk of gold and art in Swiss bunkers. Swiss air space got violated by both the war parties time to time. They destroyed all air crafts going through their airspace irrespective of parties. After World war 2, only this country from the European Continent was in good economical condition. Question remains, What they did with all constructions they did as preventive measure?

          In 2014, Swiss military declared that all explosives and bombs are removed from transportation routes. Bunkers are now converted into fancy hotels and forts are now used by digital security and technology companies as their head office.They even started  bunker hiking activities in Alps range. 

           Switzerland is known as peaceful country in the world.They don't fight any war or send their army to fight war for others. The country is not a member of European Union and NATO. Their principle we can sum as ‘ NO conflict ,NO alliance. Just leave us alone ’.
