The moment I see my grandparents, I always get reminded of my absolute wish of leaving this materialistic world in the budding years of my life.
It doesn't imply that they are not happy at this age, but I feel we as a family cannot give them time and affection due to our busy schedules and are not able to do as much as they have done for us.
To start with let me brief you about their daily routine, it's pretty much the same from the time I've started observing them closely. They wake up early, like every other elder member, chant their prayers, devour the newspaper literally, before having their light breakfast. Mid afternoon, it's the normal conversation with maid and lunch together with the family.
Prayers and watching TV in the evening is their favorite past time and they have their last meal of the day with dozens of medicines followed.
Hey, wait did I tell you that this routine is not as smooth as it appears to be. Asthma and Diabetes have stuck to their bodies just like Mikesh has glued himself to Tanya for lifetime. (Reference - Permanent Roommates)
BP and other minor ailments needs no introduction, they come along very easily. Ears listening βSotiβ (Stick) instead of βRotiβ (Chapati) has turned everybody's vocals a bit louder.
It is rightly said, old age is similar to the toddler age. Both have these generations need proper care, love and attention. Hair falling off, no link to what's happening around, like a few things be it clothes, food or even medicines. And once if you sit with them, you will be taken to a whole new era of no-machines, tech-free world where everything was just mundane job. The stories of great battles, reason behind certain superstitions, they have answers for everything. They would have been great history teachers, as no one would ever forget any lesson taught by them.
Sometimes, we do get irritated and just ignore what they have to say, but all said and done, deep down in our hearts we all know we have to go through the same phase sooner or later. I can only say grandparents are really grand for loving us the way they do and they way we are.
I am really blessed to have someone narrating me their stories while I am busy in curating mine.
