Blood collection

 Blood is a most important of human body.it is a red vascular tissue. Generally,90 ml blood is present in human body.It is used in all lab to find what symptoms are appeared in the patient. 

 popular methods of blood collection

  1. Capillary or peripheral blood collection
  2. Venous blood collection

Capillary Blood Collection:

Capillary blood sample collected equipments for syringes, needles, vacutainers, gloves, masks, tourniquet.capillary blood is obtained by inseting the tip of finger, lobe of ear, from the toe and in infants, it is obtained from the heel. However, the most convenient place to inset is finger. It is to be inset from about half cm from the nail. It is to be inseted about 3cm deep. The area to be punctured should not be cold. Disinfect the site of puncture by using spirit or 95% alcohol. Wipe of the first drop of blood, and use the next drope for testing. After obtaining sufficient amount of blood, let the patient apply slight pressure by using spirit with sterile swab. This way of blood collection can be used when the amount of blood required is only few drops, like Hb, TLC, DLC etc. 

Venous Blood Collection

Venous blood is collected from the vein of the patient. It is require when the large amount of blood is required. In venous blood sampling, a needle is inserted into a vein to collect a sample of blood for testing.venous blood collection in three sites for antivubital vein, radial vein, dorsal vein.first of all assemble all the necessary equipments such as needle, syringe, tourniquent, disinfect, cotton swab, tray of water, collection bottle.Choose the amount of blood required and select the container to the test to be don. Now ensure the patient what is to be done. Clean the selected area with spirit swab. The patient are is gripped tightly with the help of tourniquet. The vein is penetrated by positioning the needle at 20 to 30 degree angle inset the needle. After blood has been drawn, the patient should release the fist and the tourniquent is also released. A cotton ball is held firmly over the venipuncture site as the needle is removed. After removing the needle the collected blood is dispensed in the appropriate tubes. If anticoagulant iis used gentle shake the bottle for proper mixing  If reusable syringes is used immediately wash the needle with water using water tray.
