"Greed is a loss" is a proverb that expresses the idea that wanting too much of anything leads to loss. When man desires beyond his needs, it eventually leads to suffering and great loss. For example, here is a story…
Kabir and Arav
There was a village on the coast of North India. Both ‘Kabir’ and ‘Aarav’ were doing business here. Kabir used to deal in onions. Aarav used to deal in garlic.
Kabir is a realist, but Aarav is a greedy person. Kabir's income from his business in this village, is not enough. So he thought of crossing the shores and seeking his onion business in new lands.
Kabir started his journey in search of a new town on a ship one day as expected. Aarav, knowing his thoughts secretly, followed him without Kabir's knowledge.
Raja nation
Then Kabir saw a city in the distance. He hurried towards the city happily. It is a Raja dhesam. People living there don't even know what onion is. It was at that time that Kabir took his bags of onions into the town and explained to the people's there about himself and the business he was doing.
Hearing this, the people of the city were surprised and immediately told the king about this. The king immediately ordered him to come there.
King in excitement
Kabir went to the king with the onions he had brought while Aarav was secretly observing all this. Then he explained to the king about onions.
He explained clearly about the benefits and taste of adding onion to food. Apart from that, Kabir surprised the king by making a wonderful dish with his own hands using onions.
A gift from the king to Kabir
The king could not contain his joy after eating the food prepared by Kabir. Blissful that the people of his town would eat delicious food in the future, the king decided to give Kabir a great gift.
The king gave Kabir all the precious gold jewels in the country like diamonds, vitreous pearls, corals and rubies. After receiving all the gifts, Kabir returned to his village very happy and very rich.
Aarav went into town
Now Aarav has launched his garlic business in town with big dreams. This also went to the king. Like Kabir, Aarau also made a very delicious dish for the king with his own hands using garlic. It can be said that the joy of the king was not enough to make this even more delicious.
Aarav is disappointed
The king ordered that Aara should be gifted with the most precious thing in the city that day, just as he had given to Kabir. Aarav was floating in his dream.
But what happened was that at that time onion was considered as a precious commodity in the city so they gifted 5 bundles of onions to Aura. Unexpectedly, Aarav returned to his village with great disappointment.
Narrative description
Greed attracts one's mind and drags him down the wrong path. So, while it is good to try to get what you want, you have to understand that there is a limit to it.
