After birth of a girl child her ovaries already start making ova or egg but at this time these eggs are immature which is surrounded by protection of follicles.

In the age of puberty these follicles burst due to matured eggs and shoots out from the ovary.This process of eggs or ovum coming out from ovaries is  called ovulation.

The breaking of inner thick lining or soft lining in the uterus along with many blood vessel in the form of bleeding is known as menstruation.

Generally,it takes 28 days to cover complete cycle of menstruation and this process is called menstruation cycle.Ovulation happens on the middle time of this menstruation cycle means on the 14th day.On this date ovaries start emitting eggs or ovum from the age of maturity or puberty.

Before ovulation the soft and inner of uterus becomes fill and thick with many blood vessels or capillaries in it.These changes in the uterus are compulsory because in case if ovum comes out from ovary and it get fertilized by sperm then uterus must supply food and oxygen to this fertilized ovum or egg for futher development and processes.In case if egg or ovum don't get fertilized with sperm then these thick and soft lining of uterus are not necessary.Then this unfertilized egg or ovum dies within short time(in a day) and uterus thick and soft lining also breaks down.This breaking of thick soft inner lining of uterus and the process of blood coming out with other tissues from the vagina in the form of bleeding is called menstruation.

Menstruation happens when an ovary or egg of woman does not get fertilized with the sperm at the time of ovulation.This process of menstruation keeps going on again and again after a certain or fixed time which is 28 days to 30 days.In common language we also call menstruation cycle as periods.

This menstruation period is regulated by hormones.Menstruation stops for temporarily when fertilization happens means woman gets pregnant.This temporarily stoppage of menstruation cycle in pregnancy is compulsory because at this time fertilized ovum or egg needs thick and soft lining of uterus to supply oxygen and food for the futher development of fertilization.
