The New Film Iravin Nizhal, written and directed by R Parthiban, opens with an extensive behind the scenes section detailing the work behind
the film's big selling point, its claim to be the first single shot flim linear format. It's a very interesting introduction. Parthiban lands a cheeky one-liner to give this news reel-mood synopsis some spirit, but soon the segment takes the form of a primer revealing the characters and their designs.in the context of its production Introducing the audience to the style of the film before the content is problematic. A single shot technique that doesn't allow a single wrong step -the introduction captures excruciating repetition, followed by the excitement of finally getting it right - at risk of distraction . Structure can throw the viewer out of the plot.what makes Iravin Nizhal a remarkable experiment is that it doesn't balance unusual form and content over its 100 minute runtime.
This is the story of Nandu (Parthiban), told in various timelines by the current self as the narrator.the man is hurt and his redemption is elusive. Nandu navigates a story without hope. It's about abuse, finding and losing love, guilt, shallow beliefs, and the path to redemption. Actor Parthiban finds form towards the end of the film, where he engages in familiar puns and cold humor.
The multi-timeline narrative, guided by the relentlessness of a single take, begins with a bumpy start. The protagonist's rise to fame as a feared criminal is an arc that drifts into gangland film trapping, but the writing rarely slips: Parthiban puts the episode's flashbacks at a good pace, and it's staging is his highlighted by an excellent score by A. R. Rahman. Nandu's tragedy finds its element in a superbly directed sequence in which he relives the death of a loved one. He was sad to see himself in his youth, begged, and almost said he could stop the inevitable.
Puthiya Paathai (The New Road) was Parthiban's debut as an actor and director in 1989 and was seen as an interesting foray into mainstream Tamil cinema. Thirty years later, the film makers are still doing their job. He quickly talked about his struggles to fund his work and was able to stay relevant with out making easy compromises. His new film is on another good road..
Final Thoughts: Radhakrishnan Parthiban's Iravin Nizhal was a great performance and left for better contant.
