Well Begun Is Half Done

This is a proverb we are all so familiar with. I remember writing this quote on the blackboard when I was in high school!

What is the significance of this quote?

Anything that begins well is already half done. For example, you are working in a company and you are asked to lead a project. The initial efforts you put into the project will make a big difference than anything that follows. More simply put, the beginning is the most important thing that matters.

Is it only true for work and studies?

The answer is no. We can practise this in any sphere of our life. Studies show that, if we start our days in an organized and joyful manner, we remain more active and productive the whole day.

How can we begin our day well?

There are many ways to begin our day. I am sharing some of my morning routines here and you are free to take the ones that suit you most and ignore the rest. Remember, what is good for me may not be always good for you. Go through each point and pick up the ones that are good for you and make a unique routine for yourself.

  • Be Aware
Being aware of the moment is one of the key elements to live a happy and fulfilling life. Planning for the future is necessary but that doesn't mean we have to sacrifice the present, the only thing we have. The best thing we can do to begin well is to cherish and accept this fact.

  • Wake up early.
The mornings are always the perfect time to find yourself. Waking up before sunrise is one of the best ways to start your day. The calmness that morning offers is very soothing.

  • Journaling
As a writer, I find morning journaling the most effective way to overcome writer's block. It is not planned writing but a freestyle one where you can write whatever comes to your mind at the time. This is my favourite routine and I recommend everyone to try this.

  • Meditation
There is nothing more serene than sitting and focussing on your breath. If you think meditation is not for you, then you are wrong. Try sitting for 5 minutes, closing your eyes and focusing on your breath and feel the difference.

  • Exercise.
There is a variety of exercises you can choose from. One may prefer to go for a walk while others prefer to go to the gym and some may prefer to do yoga. Choose the one that best suits you. The purpose is to move your body.

These are some of my way of starting a day. You may have an entirely different morning routine (please share yours in the comment box). But, I believe the purpose is to be aware of the moment and be composed and relaxed. So select the routine in such a way that it brings out the best in you.
