If I ask you “how is your life?” what will be your answer?
Almost all of us answer a “Good” for this question. We are so good at hiding all our flaws and setbacks behind that one word. We might have just cried our heart out a moment ago but we answer the question happily with a good and a smile hoping we hide all our sorrow behind the mask of our smile.
Some of us win the hustle of hiding our pain behind a smiling face (at a very high cost, ofcourse) , but what about the losers who fail to do “the acting” well?
Yes, they either lose their mind or take their life.
In “All bright places” by Jennifer Niven, Violet tries to kill herself but was saved by Finch. But in the end, Finch commits suicide because he was unable to do ‘this acting’ perfectly. I really felt my heart break into a million pieces when I read the book.
Like Finch, we are all living double lives. We live to please the people around us, the society and everything. Instead of being happy, we are running behind money and fame. Day by day we see news about children committing suicide, boys killing girls for refusing proposal, small kids being raped and people being killed for money. Society has become a group of desperate people who do desperate things to fill their desperate emptiness in life and in mind.
Why is it that we have to act happy instead of trying to be really happy?
Why is it that we act to be in love when we are not actually in love?
Why is it that we always have to please others than ourselves?
We are literally living in a pressure cooker where we almost find ourselves engulfed in situation which challenges both our mental and physical abilities almost every time. We are stuck between the dilemma of staying true to society or staying true to ourselves.
We defend everything that happens in our life neglecting all the way down what we really want in our life. We are not only afraid to say no to the things we don't want but also afraid to hear no from other people. We are travelling through a phase wherein we all seek attention and appreciation when we all lack the ability to do it. We are all stuck in the cycle of making money that we almost forget that we are living our only life.
Remember, you are not alone in this journey, we are all in the same boat. We cannot change the entire society to stop our ‘acting’ but we can change us and stop the acting. When you embrace the feeling of living, you embrace happiness, love and tranquility. Whenever you feel like you have reached the limit and think about giving up, stick to the quote;
"Just when caterpiller thought the world was over, she became a butterfly."
Slow down a little bit in your life and let the butterfly inside you fly high.
