After one long week of almost sleepless preparation and exams, we decided to grab a 50-50 Maska Chaska packet, our favourite flavour of Lace and planned a movie night while on our way from college to the hostel.
Parvathy and I have been roommates, classmates and best friends since the first day I met her. Yes, it was me who met her and decided that “Ok, Megna, this is the one you are going to feel the rhythm of your college life.” And here we are discussing insane things and laughing at random things which will make no sense to others.
In the hostel, we have literally made heaven in room number 205. Behind the closed doors, we had a space for ourselves, where we shared everything from worries to happiness to anything for that matter. Our schedules were 100% similar, we ate together, slept at the same time, woke up at the same time, studied together, washed together and even bathed at the same time ( thank god we had common bathrooms at the hostel we stayed).
This was our 4th semester and we just finished final exams and are now headed back to the hostel to hang loose and enjoy the last day of the semester. We were arguing over what to watch for the night when Jason, one of our mates from class, came over with a solution. He suggested, rather insisted, we watch the movie Orphan, a psychological thriller. I was not in any mood to watch a thriller and I told a blind no to the plan. Parvathy was on cloud nine with Jason's amazing explanation and adamant about watching the movie. I had no other option but to give away to my stubborn baby girl. So Jason gave us his Pendrive which we agreed to give back the next day before we went home.
Our room was a mess. So we decided to clean it first, do the laundry, take a bath, have dinner and then watch the movie. Cleaning the room was a herculean task and washing clothes was like adding fuel to the fire. But Paru was so obsessed with cleanliness that there was no other choice but to do as she tells. We finished all the work by eight in the evening, made the beds and sat down to watch the movie.
I had the Lace packet in my hand and she had the biscuits with her. The movie was so far very interesting and told a story about a couple adopting a girl and their happy life. Bang! The story suddenly changed and there was violence killing and a twist that almost drained colour off my face. I looked over at Paru for her expression, she was clutching the biscuit packet as if it was going to save her from something invisible. I wanted to laugh but couldn't.
After the movie ended, yes we watched the whole movie, I was shouting at Paru for choosing this film. It was one of my dreams to adopt a girl and this so-called psychological thriller has almost changed my mind in doing so. She was laughing at my reaction but I was very furious to understand the humour in her laughter. I was thinking about the movie more deeply when Paru asked me whether I could come to the bathroom as she was afraid to go alone and LOL! This was my turn to laugh at her.
