We often hear that “Follow your passion”. Have you ever wondered how we can find what our passion is? This question has often popped into my mind whenever I hear about passion. In this blog, we are going to discuss what passion is and how we can find it. But let me tell you one thing, finding passion varies from person to person. This is how I found my way to a passionate life.
Before the pandemic struck, I watched and observed people, from old people to small kids, whenever I went outside, mainly when I travel. I have seen people with nothing walking across the street with a content face, others well dressed and well-fed but with a tensed face and nervous look on the face. It is quite interesting to look at the kids nowadays, some so worried about family issues, some so worried that they don’t have a mobile phone and some even worry about their relationship status.
People are so different. The more we observe the more complicated they become. But one thing we understand after a close analysis is that some people seem to be happier with their life than others, no matter how rich or poor they are. I know what you are thinking, the happy people are pursuing what we call “passion”. Yes, that is a possible answer. I hope now you understand that a happy life doesn’t come from money or education.
Passion is a feeling that drives you forward. You may have experienced this that some things make you more happy and content than others. Let us ask some questions ourselves to find our definition of passion (try answering the questions yourself. It will be best if you could write them down and analyse them later.)
1. What makes you happy?
Now, this is a tricky question. You have to list down all the things that make you happy, don’t be precise, just list down anything and everything that makes you happy. If walking in rain makes you happy, write it down. If seeing your child makes you happy add that to the list. If achieving good grades in college is what makes you happy, write it down. Write anything that comes into your mind that you can associate with the feeling of happiness.
2. What are the things that limit you from doing the things in the first list?
We have dreams, we have desires and along with them, we carry the fears of failures, the thought of annoying your loved ones and the cliche dialogue “what will the society think.” So, your next task is to list down all the fears, limitations and problems that you think are blocking your way from being happy. Be it your parents who say no to a friend who is always nagging about the failures. The reason could also be within yourself, your fears, insecurities and self-doubt. Write all of them.
3. Imagine you are living a passionate life. Write down how it will be like.
This is the most creative and yet most important question. All you want to do is, to be honest with yourself. Write the answer to this question as if you are living your dream life. Maybe living in a big house with comfy beds, reading your favourite book in your library, having a job that you never get tired of doing and a family who supports you will be a definition. Now form your view about the life you want to live.
After having written answers to these three questions, read your answers slowly. You will surely find what your passion is. Because passion is not a high paying job that makes you wealthy, passion is something that makes your life meaningful. Even if you are given zero money for doing something you love to do, you will be happy. No, I am not telling you that you don’t need money, but yes money is only a need, not a necessity for being happy. For me, a happy life is a passionate life. Comment what your passionate life will be like.
