How To Get Started In Game Development

Before you read any further I just want to ask you to give 10 stars to the blog if you are reading it, it really helps with the reach and takes only 2-3 seconds of your time.

If you have played games like GTA, Max-Payne, NFS,  Prince of Persia, or any other AAA game with stunning art, music, and story in 6-8th standard, there is a high probability you wanted to be a game developer. So that was the same reason I started learning game development and now I am at a stage where I can make full games by myself. Of course, they don't have the same feel as AAA games because of obvious reasons (I am working alone and I don't have money to pay for art and music). So I think I can guide you on how to begin your game dev journey.

First and foremost you need a game engine to make your games. Luckily there are tons of free game engines available that don't charge a single rupee unless your game makes greater than a set amount of money, in which case paying the engine is not a big deal at all. There are open-source game engines like Godot which will not charge any money no matter how much your game makes. So the game engine I will suggest to begin learning is Unity as it has the most sources available to learn from and also it can do most things that a game needs like animations, post-processing, and even porting to different devices like mobile phones, PCs, Nintendo switch, etc.

But I have to say its learning curve is a bit steep. Initially, when you start learning, you will be able to make your first game within 2-3 days and you will get a hell lot of confidence in your abilities but as you learn more and more things you will understand that your initial ways of coding are not efficient at all.

Anyways, next comes the art.

If you want to make a 3D game, which I will suggest to not make if you are a beginner you want to learn Blender as it is free and open source and is becoming an industry standard for indie games If you want to make a 2D game, you will need to learn Adobe Photoshop, it's paid and If you don't want to pay , you should make pixel art games and should use GIMP.
