Actor Prithviraj once said about Vijay in an interview that 'Every time a Vijay movie comes out, the market value of a movie industry changes'. That much is the audience support for Vijay. After Doctor, Beast is the film directed by Nelson Dilip Kumar and starring Vijay in the lead role. Produced by Kalanidhi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures, the film is a full-length entertainer. The film uses both action and comedy and definitely gives the audience a great theater experience.Vijay will be seen in the role of Veeraraghavan, a former RAW agent in Beast. In Beast, Vijay is seen in the same look as his previous films. The plot of the movie is that a shopping mall in Chennai city is hijacked by terrorists and the hero Veeraraghavan accidentally falls in among the people who are being held hostage there and the hero rescues the people from the terrorists with great adventure. There is nothing new in the story and director Nelson Dileep Kumar has arranged elements throughout the film to entertain the audience for two and a half hours. The intense action scenes are the main highlight of the movie. Vijay also succeeds in presenting the stunt master and knowledge in setting up the scenes with such ease as the story demands.Like Nelson Dilip Kumar's earlier films, comedy has been given a lot of importance in Beast. But it is a fact that whenever the film enters into a thrilling mood, the occasional comedy scenes are stonewalled. As seen in the trailer, the film does not have the character of an action thriller. A mix of action and comedy can be seen throughout the film.Throughout the film, the hero is in a state of unhappiness. Although Vijay wins applause for his lively action sequences and mass dialogues, Vijay's performance in comedy scenes does not look good. Actress Pooja Hegde, who is back in Tamil after her debut film Mukhamoodi, has featured throughout the film. Pooja Hegde has been able to hold her own with the 'Dancer' winner in the song scenes. Comedy scenes are also done well.Even though Malayalam stars like Shine Tom Chacko and Aparna Das came and went in the movie, it did not seem like a performance that could be picked up. Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, director Selvaraghavan and Redin Kingsley also performed well. The shortcoming of the screenplay can be seen at many places in the film. The presentation of Beast is similar to Nelson's previous film Doctor. Anirudh's songs and background music help to make the movie better. Manoj Paramahamsa's camera and Nirmal's editing were crucial in the presentation of the film.
Beast is no different from the usual Vijay films that covertly and openly talk about politics.Vijay has also found space in Beast to criticize politicians who gain power through extremism and power politics.
Although the hero and the crew are trying to be different from the Vijay films seen so far, it cannot be said that they have been completely successful. It remains to be seen how much the film will satisfy Vijay fans. For those who want to see the winner in the usual mass hero style, the Beast is a disappointment. The film has been prepared in such a way that any audience will be satisfied if they come to the theater with the mind to enjoy the film. It is certain that the Tamil audience will like Beast a little more than the Malayalams.
