Today we will be looking at the unborn god who was fated to be the most powerful god in all of Greek Mythology. Were he born, It was prophesied that Zeus would be overthrown by him. His birth would have been the inauguration of a new age. All other gods would have been forced to bend the knee or face his wrath, most of all Zeus.

From chaos, emerged 5 deities. One of those was Gaia, the personification of the Earth, produced 3 second generation duties independently. These were Ourea, the Mountains, Pontus, the sea and Uranus, the sky. Gaia took Uranus and from their Union emerged the Hecatonchires, the Cyclopes and also the Titans.  Uranus saw the Hecatonchires and the Cyclopes as abominations and kept them trapped inside of Gaia. But he allowed the titans to emerge. Having children trapped inside her was very excruciating and so Gaia beseeched her children to rebel against her father, uranus. Only Cronus, the youngest was ambitious to answer his mother's wish. So the next time Uranus wanted to engage with Gaia, cronus castrated him and casted the several genitals into the sea. This act was responsible for separating the Earth from the sky. And the rule of the Titans began with Cronus as the king of Cosmos.

But he saw the prophecy that he was to be usurped by one of his sons as his father was overthrown by him. So he would swallow his children as soon as they were born. Titan Rhea, his wife could not bear to watch this so she replaced her son, Zeus with a stone and let Cronus swallow the stone instead. Zeus was raised in secret and when he came of age, he rescued his siblings and overthrew the titans.

And now with Zeus as the king this prophecy was almost yet again repeated. He was such a adulterer that many mortal women fell prey to him. But he also bedded goddesses from which one was Metis. And as the prophecy foretold, it was believed that one of their child if they were born would strike him down. Metis told that he would have first  a daughter and then a son. Zeus swallowed Metis when she  was pregnant with their first child. Later on Zeus suffered an exquisite pain in his head which was so unbearable that he asked Hephaestus- Prometheus to behead him with his axe. The blow spilt Zeus' head and from that, emerged Athena. But the son who was to overthrow him was never born.
