The Battlefield Our Body Is.

Welcome or welcome back my dear bloggers to my daily blogs. I hope you all are in good health and are having a blast of a day. 💚💚

So in this blog, we will be talking a bit about science, more like biology. Do you know, every moment we live we are under attack. Thousands and millions of bacteria are trying to make us their home. So in counter, our bodies have evolved and made a super complex defense mechanism to protect you  from dying. This mechanism is termed as the immune system.  All the cells of immune system carry out different tasks of the body such as communicating, defense, memory, etc. For this blog, we will be talking about those cells that get affected in case of infections.

So when you somehow cut yourself or wound yourself, the first gate of immune system is broken which is the skin. The nearby bacteria seize that opportunity and enter your wound. After that their numbers double rapidly. Once a certain bacteria population is reached,  they start damaging the body. Here comes your immune system.

Firstly, the macrophages( guard cells) intervene. Most of time, they alone can suppress the attack and protect you. When they can not control the situation, they call for backup from neutrophils. These neutrophils leave their bloodstream position and arrive to the affected site. These are like bombs, they even kill our self cells in the process. Even if this does not work, then the boss of immune system kicks in, the dendritic cell. These are decision makers, they decide whether to call the anti virus forces or an army of bacteria killers.

In this case, anti bacteria forces are required. It travels to the lymph nodes and activates about a billion helper and killer T cells. These helper T cells binds the parts of the intruders ( bacteria) and duplicates about thousands of times. Some become memory T cells that stay in lymph nodes and will make you immune against this enemy. Some T cells activates the B cells in the lymph nodes. Now the B cell duplicates rapidly and T cells prevent these B cells form dying for some amount of time.

What does B cells produce? The popular saviours known as antibodies. The antibodies bind to the enemy (antigens) and saturate the body. Now they flood to the site of infection and disable lots of intruders.

This team effort results in a wipeout of these infection, but millions of body cells have also been died out. And most of the immune cells commit suicide for being useless now except those memory cells.

So that is all for this blog. I hope you found this informative.
